Celebrate Gamelan Sekar Jaya's 30th Birthday!

Our dear friends and mentors at Gamelan Sekar Jaya have a wonderful weekend of celebration concerts approaching.
We've grown so much in knowing and working with them.
Many members of Gamelan X have and continue to perform in GSJ's various ensembles.
This fall, Gamelan X and Gamelan Sekar Jaya will join forces to present "PLANETS" - a multi-media collaboration at the Exploratorium.

Gamelan X is headed to TED

We're delighted to be traveling to Long Beach next week to premiere a new work at the 2009 TED Conference.  In collaboration with UV-light dance-theater troupe ArcheDream for Humankind (adhk.org) we've created Flowering Anomalies, a piece inspired by the theme of this year's conference: The Great Unveiling.  See the post below for an abstract of the new work.  Performance time: Feb. 4, 2:15pm, Main Stage.

Flowering Anomalies

Curiouser and curiouser...

As time flows on, we seem to be coming into closer and closer contact with alien things: unusual technologies, foreign cultures, exotic ideas. This trend show no signs of abating; rather it appears to be displaying exponential growth. What doesn't these days?

If we take our aesthetic response to the world as a key factor in the way we frame and thus create reality, then we have a responsibility to seek a more familiar relationship with the unfamiliar. It's time to turn and face the strange - with vigor.
